Course Description and Learning Objectives

•        IDPH staff plays a role in the legislative process as subject matter experts.

•        Expertise you provide to legislators impacts the decision they make.

•        The settings for providing this expertise vary greatly and at times can feel intimidating.

•        If you might be called upon to provide expert information to legislators this training is important for you!

•        Training will cover how to prepare for speaking with legislators.

•        Role of government employees in the legislative process

•        Experienced IDPH staff will share their personal experiences.

•        Will include a Capitol tour of the committee and subcommittee rooms.

Location:  Iowa State Capitol, registrants will be notified of the specific location.

Speaker:  Deborah Thompson, IDPH Policy Advisor & Healthiest State Initiative Coordinator

Target Audience:   Employees who may be called upon as subject matter experts for their bureau or division during the 2014 legislative session
